We are over the moon to announce our partnership with Edinburgh Marathon Festival! The UK's second largest marathon is about to get a whole lot bigger and better. We've joined forces in a monumental partnership that kicks off in the year Britain hosts the Olympics. It's a big year and together we want to give you the best Edinburgh Marathon Festival experience yet.
We are joined by Gregor Townsend, former British Lion and now Scotland Attack Coach – “Having run for Team Macmillan in Edinburgh, I know the support you will receive when you join the team issecond to none. From the moment you sign up to the big day itself, Macmillan will be there with everything you need. Plus their cheer-points are so inspiring they will ensure you have the race of a lifetime. The best part though is the pride of knowing that you are helping so many people living with cancer!” Gregor Townsend
We change lives - “It is really alarming that the number of people who will get cancer is now well past one in three. Cancer patients are experiencing issues which require support several years after initial diagnosis and treatment. The NHS really needs to recognise cancer’s long term impact on people’s lives, to plan better services and to develop more personalised care. We have a massive challenge ahead if we are to keep up with the relentless toll cancer takes on people’s health, and the NHS must rise to it.” Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support
We support our runners – “Thank you for the fantastic job all of the Macmillan guys did both on the day and prior to event! Everyone has been very helpful, supportive, and the post-race area was fantastic. I received a much needed massage and food etc, everyone with me was really impressed by everything you all did! I should also say that everyone I told that I was fundraising for Macmillan had loads of positive things to say about the fantastic support that the charity provides! Thank you all very much!” Oli Frape, 2011 EMF
You can make a difference – last year 28,694 people received a Macmillan grant totalling just over £9.9 million………..“I opened the envelope with your cheque on the day I arrived home after being discharged from hospital … I really cannot put into words adequately how relieved I felt that I could now relax in the knowledge that I can have my heating on for longer and would be a lot warmer at a time when I am pretty much housebound, feeling quite vulnerable and not as mobile as I would have liked to be. I am sure my recovery will be very much easier now than it would have been as after my first operation. It has been a difficult time for me, being on my own, and your kindness has made me feel so much happier and stopped the despair I was feeling.”
